GP3 Series 2016 - Round 05 - Hockenheim
After good results from the previous event with Arjun Maini, expectations were high for the German Round. Mechanics have done an incredible job to repair and prepare the car from Akash Nandy which went in the air at the start of the last race.
Good things went up during the Free Practice and it was with an expectation of a Top 6 than we were heading to the Qualifying on Saturday morning.
On the last set of New Tyres of the Qualifying, Arjun Maini went on the top of the timing but his laptime got deleted for track limits into the first corners - meaning that he has to perform another good lap to be able to qualify up front; unfortunately, his last two attempts were stopped by being blocked on his fast lap - quite a lot of traffic during this qualifying. At the end, Arjun Maini could only qualify P13 and Akash Nandy P21.
Race 1 showed a great performance from the 2 Jenzer Cars. At the start though, it did started as planned, Arjun had to avoid a mess at the first corner and had to run wide losing a couple of positions, ending up the first lap P16. Nevertheless, motivation was high, fighting spirit was there and pace as well, the Indian driver was able through the race to have an incredible pace and was passing his opponent, finishing the race on P7, being the fastest car on track for the last 6 laps in front of his team mate who managed to go up to P13.
For Race 2, Arjun Maini was starting on the first row and had a rocket start to be P1 at the first corner. Unfortunately on lap 2, the Virtual Safety Car went on and at the restart of this period, he lost a few places, but was able to recover P5 at the chequered flag. Some more good points collected by Arjun and he showed again he and his car have a great pace and we are all looking forward for the next race in Spa Francorchamps at the end of August.
